About St Helens

Two buildings with five names

C16th-C17th

Brass rubbingThe parish originally consists of little more than the houses and a small stretch of Bishopsgate. A number of notable men live in the parish and several are buried in the church.


1874


St Martin Outwich - founded in the 14th century and rebuilt in 1796 - is pulled down and the parish is combined with St Helen's.

The Merchant Taylors' Company, patron of St Martin Outwich, becomes patron of the united benefice.

1991

St Andrew'sThe parish of St Andrew Undershaft with St Mary Axe is united with St Helen Bishopsgate with St Martin Outwich and St Ethelburga, so the parish today has the name of "St Helen Bishopsgate with St Andrew Undershaft & St Ethelburga Bishopsgate & St Martin Outwich & St Mary Axe".
