Serving on Sunday Mornings

Coffee – Join the team that prepares and serves tea and coffee after the morning meeting, on a rota basis.

Crèche on Sunday mornings – This involves looking after our under 2's during the Sunday morning meeting on a rota basis.

Music on Sunday Mornings – We invite anyone able to sing or play an instrument to sing or play for the main meeting, or for our Sunday school

PA – Running the PA system on a Sunday morning. Full training is provided.

Parking – This involves overseeing parking in St Helen’s Place on a Sunday morning before and after the meeting on a rota basis

Sunday lunches – About six times a year we serve a roast Sunday lunch for the Sunday morning Church Family. We need some people to set up tables, others to serve food and others to wash up. If you offer your help, we will ask you to help once or twice a term.

Sunday school – Our Sunday school teachers have the important responsibility of teaching the Bible to small groups of children aged 3 to 10 during the Sunday Morning meeting. We provide training, materials and careful oversight. If you are interested in this area of service, we’d be glad to help you explore the possibility of joining our team. Sunday school teachers teach alternate weeks, and stay in the Sunday morning meeting to be taught the Bible themselves.

Teenagers – We have two groups catering for teenagers: The Bridge (11 – 14s) meets on Sunday mornings and Friday evenings. The Junction (15-18s) meets on Sunday afternoons and goes on to the Sunday evening meeting. When inviting people to become leaders, we look for teaching ability, godliness, commitment, energy and enthusiasm, but we are also keen to provide training and encouragement to enable our leaders to develop their gifts further.

Welcoming/Stewarding – The job of this team is to welcome newcomers on a Sunday morning, help people find their seats and answer questions at the Information Board

Serving on Sunday Evenings

After Eights – Our After Eights Team serves hot food (pizza, jacket potatoes, hot dogs), drinks and snacks after the evening meeting on a 1 week in 5 rota.

Music – If you can play and instrument or sing, we’d be glad for you to be involved in leading the music on a Sunday evening

PA – Running the PA system on a Sunday evening. Full training is provided.

Stewarding – Good stewarding is fundamental to the smooth running of Sunday evenings. It involves involving setting up the church and directing people to their seats before the meeting.

Welcoming – If you have been around for a couple of years and are familiar with St Helen’s, you could join the team that helps to welcome new people and answer questions at the Information Board on a Sunday night. The teams work on a rota basis in blocks of four consecutive Sunday evenings.

Serving beyond Sundays

Babysitting – Babysitting regularly to enable parents who live near you to attend a midweek Bible study.

Crèche for Women on Wednesday – This involves helping run the crèche for Women on Wednesday, either regularly or on an ad hoc basis if you’re sometimes free? WOW meets monthly in St Helen’s, 10am – 12 noon.

International Welcome – Join a team committed to welcoming internationals within and beyond St Helen’s. Help with hosting monthly events and get involved in this exciting cross-cultural ministry.

Occasional help with catering for events – We often need people to help at our events, for example at an evangelistic evening, or a small group leaders training evening. Our full-time catering team prepares the food, but we need a team to set up tables, serve the food and wash up. Joining our list of “Occasional catering helpers” doesn’t commit you to helping, but gives us a pool of people we can ask whether they are available to help.

St Helen’s Media – St Helen’s Media sends Bible teaching all over the world. Volunteers are always needed, and no prior technical know-how is required. If you regularly could give a couple of hours, David Monteath and his team would love to hear from you.

Tuesday lunches and Thursday lunches – If you are available any time from mid-morning to early afternoon on a Tuesday or a Thursday, once a month or so, we would welcome your help on one of the teams which sets out and serves lunches on a Tuesday or a Thursday in St Helen’s for our midweek lunchtime talks.

Serving Beyond St Helen’s

Homework helpers – If you get involved with this scheme, you will be aiming to develop a friendship with a Bangladeshi family in the East End through helping their children with their homework, chiefly assisting them with basic reading skills and arithmetic. Orientation and support are provided and the time commitment is one meeting per week for a school term plus one training and prayer evening.

The Good Shepherd Mission – The Good Shepherd Mission runs weeknight clubs for young people from Bangladeshi families in the Bethnal Green area. Male and female helpers are always required, and warmly welcomed.
