The Jesus Storybook Bible is a beautifully written book. Sally Lloyd-Jones has a wonderful grasp of language and rhythm which makes reading it a pleasure. The illustrations are bright and colourful and fill every page. More importantly, the individual stories are used to retell the story of the whole Bible from creation right through to the end of all things.

The subtitle captures what this book does. The stories point us again and again to Jesus, the one in whom all Scripture is fulfilled: ‘Every story whispers his name’. There may be a few quibbles here and there with some of the connections made, but overall it is masterly.

Books like this are best read aloud. So read it out to others again and again – it’s not just children who will gain. But failing this there is now an audio book with David Suchet as reader - and he can read quite well.
