William Taylor starts a new series in St Helen's Training, What is the Gospel?

Every Christian needs to be able to explain the Gospel clearly to his/her friends. First, we need to be clear on what the Gospel is. Acts 10:36-43 summarises it for us as the word that was preached to Israel, of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. Acts 2:36 and Romans 1:4 continue this theme of the Lordship of Christ, along with the start of Mark's and John's Gospel.

Once we're clear on this Gospel, it has a profound impact on whom we're prepared to proclaim the Gospel to. Everyone we meet, Jesus is Lord of that person. Jesus Christ, whether they like it or not, whether they believe it or not, whether they're prepared to accept it or not, is their Lord. Jesus has been declared, with power, by God, through the resurrection of the dead, to be Lord.

And so everyone needs to hear the truth that Jesus is their Lord.

As you think about what the Gospel is, you might also be interested in our Sermon Bite that looks at the meaning of the word 'gospel' itself.

St Helen's Training aims to train and equip bible handlers by sharing our best training resources. We pray that many people might grow in confidence in their bible handling, whether they are reading the bible with a friend, leading a small group or preaching.
