Zechariah 1:1-4

Return and remove

Zechariah is the most quoted prophet in Matthew’s passion narrative. Matthew understands that Zechariah explains Jesus’ death for us. At the heart of Zechariah’s visions is a cleansed priesthood, with God removing sin from his people and from the nation Israel. We so easily overestimate the progressive possibilities of man, and underestimate the pervasive problem of our sin. God does not!
