Paul writes to his friend Philemon, asking him to welcome Onesimus into his church. However, Onesimus is Philemon's slave. He has been helping Paul in prison for a while and become a Christian. Now Paul thinks he should return and asks Philemon to treat him as he would treat Paul. The letter is short and straightforward, but radically subversive for its time. It is a profound and challenging case study showing how worldly hierarchies and divisions are turned upside down in Jesus' family.
