The long promised prophet

Luke’s aim is for his readers to have certainty concerning what God is doing in his world. He begins by deliberately weaving the historical events of Jesus’ coming into the tapestry of how God has acted and what God has promised down through the centuries. The events of Jesus’ birth are part of God’s story, God’s salvation and God’s grace.
