Luke 1:39-56

The long promised victor

Mary’s song, the Magnificat, must be one the most sung songs of all time. It provides Christians with the model response to all that God is doing in salvation. But Luke has a greater purpose than simply giving us words to sing as he includes Mary’s lyrics in the opening to his gospel. Mary’s words, together with the rest of chapters 1 and 2, enable us to interpret the remainder of Luke’s gospel rightly.
