Parables of the kingdom I

Why does Jesus speak in parables? The parable of the sower explains the varied response. Of the four responses, three bear no fruit. Christians should not feel discouraged about this disproportionate lack of fruit. We can see in this parable it is normal. And there is an abundant harvest.
