‘Arrival fallacy’ is what psychologists call living with the allusion that once we reach our goal we’ll find lasting happiness. But the experience of many high achievers on fulfilling their aims is of disappointment, emptiness, and purposelessness. In John Chapter 4, Jesus meets a woman who, without even realising it, had spent her life looking for meaning. Jesus tells her, and all of us, that he is the purpose we’re all looking for.
