One of the big issues in Romans 9–11 is God’s sovereignty. Has God dealt fairly with the nation of Israel, his chosen people from the Old Testament, who don’t appear to be accepting Paul’s gospel? Before we dive into this section of Romans, we head away for a weekend to consider the issue of God’s sovereignty for ourselves. What does the Bible have to say about it?
We will be considering hard questions like:
How can a loving God chose to save some people?
How can God allow evil and suffering to continue to happen?
How do human freedom and God’s sovereignty relate?
How should we respond to a God who is sovereign?
Is God’s sovereignty a good or a bad thing?
What would it be like if God wasn’t sovereign?
What about the cross?
These are the types of hard and emotive questions we will be considering on this weekend away. Come with your questions, ready to listen to God speak to us about who he is on this weekend.
Mickey and Jim will be giving us five talks on God’s sovereignty, with lots of time for group discussion, asking questions, and personal reflection. In addition, there will be time to enjoy time together in the beautiful surroundings of Ashburnham in the crisp winter weather.
